The walk will take until about 12.30 and finish at Love Lane Estate nr Tottenham High Road.

Council housing has been fought for and defended for generations as the only secure, affordable, decent housing available for working class people. However, such housing is under attack from the Government and property speculators who can’t stand what it represents – resources for need not profit.

In London in particular, including Tottenham, developers are now pushing to get their hands on our public estates and the public land they sit on in order to build luxury housing for their own greedy profits. Haringey Council is obediently putting up a number of estates for ominous-sounding ‘option reviews’ and ‘proposed redevelopment’ – a disastrous and failed policy.

Campaigners and local Tenants and Residents Associations continue to stand up for the interests of their communities. With this walk, organised as part of the Tottenham Community Empowerment Week, we want to learn about this important local history and be inspired by some of the struggles of the past.
